5 Wellness Tips to Live and Feel Your Best This Year

I often get asked what my favorite wellness tips are, and my answer is to keep it simple and prioritize the basics. Though these areas of our life may seem simple, they are often the most overlooked. For most of us, wellness does not mean working out 6 days per week for 2 hours each session. Wellness does not mean burning the candle at both ends with work and family/life responsibilities. Wellness is not following a super calorically restrictive diet. And wellness certainly is not constantly prioritizing others' needs above our own.

Wellness is about balance. Wellness is making time for yourself and your needs. Wellness is listening to your body and honoring the need for rest or fuel. Wellness is about slowing down, finding joy, and expressing gratitude each day. Remember, the key is not to overlook the basics; once these 5 areas are dialed in, progress to higher-level wellness activities.

My top 5 favorite wellness tips:

1. Sleep

  • Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.

2. Hydrate

  • Drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day.

    • Ex: 200 lbs =100 ounces of water. Which is about 6 standard-size water bottles per day.

3. Eat

  • Try to eat a varied diet and prioritize whole foods, with lots of fruits and veggies. Ensure you are eating enough calories and protein to support your body and activities.

4. Move

  • Move your body for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, ideally outside!

5. Decompress

  • Spend 5-30+ minutes per day doing a quiet and decompression activity

    • Examples include: meditation, journaling, praying, stretching, or deep breathing
