Happy December, OMPT friends,
It certainly doesn't feel much like the holiday season with this 60-degree weather we have in Bend, but none the less the holidays are here. We have compiled a list of our 10 favorite PT-approved gifts to serve as a shopping guide for your favorite people this gift-giving season. Let's face it; we could all use a little more self-care this year. We encourage you to shop locally and support small businesses when possible; however, some of these specialty items may be hard to find off-line.
10 Outside Movement Physical Therapy Approved Gifts:
Lacrosse ball: though simple, this is my favorite mobility tool. It can be used on almost every muscle group and can travel with you where ever you go! We recommend checking out a local sporting goods store to find these.
Super bands: great for mobility and strength training, these long loop bands are sturdier and more versatile than traditional tubing or latex bands. In Bend, these can be found locally at Back in Action Fitness Equipment.
Yoga toes: if you have been following me for a while, you know my passion for foot health; our toes are meant to SPREAD and SPLAY. These are like the little pedicure toe spreaders but amped up a notch! I have not found them locally, but you can purchase directly from the company online.
Rumble Roller: for the more experienced foam rollers out there; level up the experience with some oh-so-good but oh-so-intense texture.
Medicine Ball: incorporate more play into a fitness routine with a weighted medicine ball. Use as a substitute for a kettlebell or dumbbell; these can be used for total body workouts.
Yoga mat: endless brands, colors, and patterns to suit any personality or interest. Help set up a space for recovery or training...they also double as dog beds in my household!
Bosu ball: the perfect pre-ski and pre-snowboard training tool that will help anyone improve balance and stability. Check your local craigslist or Facebook marketplace to find one of these for a steal.
Kettlebell: a staple of any strength training routine, most folks can get away with having one of these (10-25lbs depending on the person) and accomplish the bulk of their strength training needs.
TRX: one of my favorite home gym essentials, can be utilized for highly diverse strength and stability training. Models that can be fixed into a home gym or are more portable to be taken on travel. If you have been to OMPT, there is a 97% chance we have used this!
Gift Card: give the ultimate wellness/self-care gift of physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, etc. Gifted experiences never disappoint!

Don't forget to get something special for YOURSELF.
Cheers,
Nicole
